I miss traveling abroad.

Specifically, I miss eating abroad. My family has always chosen vacation spots with food in mind. I often think back to the foods I have tried in my journies abroad and try not to get hungry while doing so. I fail at this a lot. No matter how hard I try, Fruity Pebbles can never satisfy the urge for Dutch herring or French macarons.

I took the places of peace assignment from the first week of class and added a twist: I chose pictures of foods that represented good memories from past travels and wrote about them in that country’s language. The first one was easy because it was taken in London, so English it was. The next four were easily translated on DeepL. Icelandic was a bit harder since it is not a common language (it is only spoken in Iceland) and is considered one of the most complex languages in the world (put it this way, if 98% of people in Iceland speak English, there is no hope for you to talk to Icelandic).
