My final project idea from January was to tell the story of a young Icelandic woman who is given supernatural powers by the goddess Hel and becomes a vigilante. If you know me, this checks off many boxes for things that intrigue Brianna. For my final project, I would like to create an origin story. Who this woman is and her journey to becoming the vigilante will shake the world like Batman Begins (which I have never seen tbh). There are five mini projects I have in mind to contribute to this idea. I think it’s the material needed in a pitch or a creative session with producers/writers.

Project 1: Newspaper Snippits and Social Media Posts

Like all superheroes testing their new powers and abilities, they often make mistakes and get noticed by the public. Think Iron Man in Afghanistan getting caught by Rhodes (Iron Man (2008)) or the Flash getting “caught” on a security camera (Justice League 2021). Our protagonist would be just the same. I would make a newspaper article or a couple of social media posts speculating about this mysterious person and the mysterious events taking place. I will use Canva for this because Canva is life.

Project 2: Music Playlist

Music sets the mood of the story. There is a reason why there are multiple Oscar categories dedicated to music. The songs in this story would be dark, gritty, and be by women (because this story calls for it). So I would create a playlist on SoundCloud of all the songs featured in my account.

Project 3: Character Mockups

Every movie/tv show has sketches and designs of its characters. These are often instrumental in the casting process and the character’s story. While I am moderate artistic skills, I do not possess the skills to create quality character sketches. I am much better at drawing inanimate objects than living, breathing creatures. However, I am pretty good at makeup. I would use makeup to become the two characters themselves: the main protagonist and Hel. Full disclosure, since Hel would involve a lot of time, effort, and additional makeup supplies, she might not be created (cause I got other things to do). So I will be turning myself into the main character.

Project 4: Map/Recreation of the Setting

There are two options for this project, which will depend on how much energy and motivation I have at the time.

The first option is to create a map of the world and have a legend that shows the significant events of the protagonist’s journey and places of interest. This would be similar to the map I did of Hogsmeade for my final project in DGST 301 last semester. Such events would include the first meeting between the protagonist and Hel and the protagonist first using her powers. Since the story takes place in Reykjavík, I will have a basic foundation.

The second option, which would require a lot of time, would be to recreate the setting in Minecraft (the one thing I am good at). I have experience with doing builds on Minecraft (see my two cottage builds here and here). A 3-D model of the world would be a lot more impactful than a 2-D version. However, I am already doing a Minecraft project for my other class, and it might not be suitable to do two significant builds simultaneously. I will play it by ear when the time comes.
